Every self-publishing author’s dream is to send a large number of books. The idea of selling 1,500 books in one day would be fantastic. I thought I would do that on my first self-published book. But, reality set in quickly.
Most self-published publications don’t send out more than 250 copies in their lifetime.
That was the case with my first book, Productivity Success. I sold 248 copies of my first book between the time it was published and the time I updated parts of it for a new promotion. The majority of those sales and downloads occurred in the first month. The remainder was sold for two years.
Book #3 Shipped 2,412 Copies
In 2021, I published my third book, which sold 2,000 copies in its first month. I’ve had 412 sales in the last five years, and I’m still counting. My devotional on the Book of Proverbs consistently sells every week. On its first day, it had 1,000 downloads. This was when I knew I was on to something.
Book #2 Shipped 1,500 Books in 24 Hours
Last week, I finished a two-month project to update my second book, a devotional on the Gospel of John, and then relaunch it into the world. This book had only had 377 copies shipped since publishing in early 2021. However, when I relaunched it this week, I had 1,500 books shipped in 24 hours. It was amazing!
How did I Ship 1,500 Books in 24 Hours?
Over the last year, I started digging deep into how to launch a book and the critical components to shipping lots of books. I found three essential parts to your book and being able to ship 1,500 books or more. These three things were what I focused on with the launch of my third book and the relaunch of my second book.
1. Keywords and Categories
When publishing your book, you’ll need to figure out how much to charge, choose outstanding categories and keywords, and write a compelling book description. Publisher Rocket is what I use to select categories and keywords.
2. Book Cover
This is another area where I strongly advise you to employ someone to help you. Having a great cover will aid in the sale of your books. I don’t advocate doing this yourself unless you’re already a designer. If you designed your cover, you should redo it right away.
3. Promotion
I always start with free book promotion. The Fussy Librarian is a paid marketing email list that I purchase promotion through them while doing my free book promotion. Thousands of downloads and countless print books have resulted as a result of this. After the campaign, you should be able to sell consistent books regularly.
Final Thoughts on Shipping 1,500 Books
This is a sure-fire way to ship a lot of books. These three keys have helped me do it over and over again. I have shipped nearly 6,000 books over three of my books to date. All three books have been #1 Bestsellers on Amazon. Each one continues to sell regularly. To learn more about self-publishing resources, check out my resources page.
